_It happens to everyone at least once. You wake thinking WOW how did that happen? You look at the clock and it is staring back at you with bright numbers showing 4:30AM and you are wide-awake. If you lie there long enough you might fall back asleep or maybe not. Why not consider getting up early? Regardless of whether you are traveling or at home, consider getting out and exploring things early and you’ll find an entirely different world.
Today I got up early to see the new section of the NY High-Line. It officially opened yesterday and given that the temperatures are expecting to be 95F, I thought I’d get up and go for it. If you are not familiar with the High-Line it is a must for any visit to NYC. It is a very cutting-edge use of an existing structure whose original purpose is no longer needed and has become one of the most popular destinations in the city for designers and people in the know.
I arrived at the Park by 7:20AM and found it mostly empty except for a few joggers, walkers, and other locals who wanted to get a good start on the day. The sun was just starting to strike the dew on the leaves, while the bees were finishing up their nectar search, and the city was just getting started.
One of the best things about the high-line is that it offers a higher elevation view of the city. After visiting Rainbow City just below the High-Line you may find yourself feeling a different kind of high. The fantasyland was inspired by the festival in India known as Holi, a festival of color. It’s kind of a stretch if you’ve ever done Holi. It feels more like a mini Japanese anime park.
Perhaps you would rather chill out after getting high. If so you’ll want to check out The Lot – the beer garden.
Who knows - by the end of the day you might be so excited about seeing the city at different times and elevations that you decide to go all the way and get high up on one of the great rooftop terraces and watch the sunset. Wait you weren’t thinking something illegal were you?
Here are all the details of the park.
